Following their third place finish in the Western Conference last season, we may have expected Galaxy to be in better shape at this admittedly early stage of the new campaign. As it is, Curt Onalfo’s men are one off the bottom with just one win from their opening four.
It’s an identical situation for the Impact who are in 10th place over in the East, and both sides are therefore desperate for the points when they meet at the StubHub Center on Saturday.
Both teams have just three points in their respective divisions but it’s Galaxy who lead the result betting by some margin at best odds of 5/7 with 10Bet. Those favouring the tie can head to Betway or Winner Sports where they can get 11/4 on a share of the points while a win for the Montreal Impact is listed at 17/4 with Winner Sports again.
If you look at the form table going back beyond the current season then it’s not happy reading for Montreal fans with no wins at all from their last six. LA aren’t that much better with just one victory over that period but they have at least got that one win in 2017 and with home advantage, they are the smarter bet unfortunately.
Individual Goal Scorer
Giovani Dos Santos has produced a frustrating career so far; blessed with talent, he has often underachieved but he finally seems to be finding a home in LA. The Galaxy striker has 19 goals in the MLS and is favourite to open the scoring at odds of 4/1 with Bet365 and 10Bet.
As you would expect, this is a market that is dominated by Galaxy players with Ariel Lassiter the next name on the list at a top price of 11/2 with Bet365 to find the net first. In fact, you have to go all the way down to the sixth favourite, Impact’s Matteo Mancosu who is quoted at best odds of 15/2 with Bet365 and 888Sport to open the scoring in Saturday’s fixture.
Mancosuhas two goals in four games since signing for Montreal in a permanent deal and if he keeps up that ratio, he will justify our tip as an anytime goal scorer at a top price of 5/2 with either 32Red or 888Sport.
Other Side Bets
In six combined games, these two sides have scored 10 goals between them and that’s not a bad total from two teams who are languishing towards the bottom of their respective Conferences. Clearly, defence is the issue so should we be expecting a high scoring game at the StubHub Center?
A combined total of 14 goals conceded suggests that we will so a bet over the 3.5 goal line at odds of 24/13 with 888Sport could prove to be profitable. Alternatively, you could play that one a little bit safer and back over 2.5 goals which currently comes in at a top price of 8/11 with 32Red.
Based on that current form, you may also want to take a look at the Correct Scorer market which is always very volatile if potentially lucrative. A 3-1 victory in favour of the Galaxy here is on offer at best odds of 12/1 with Bet365 and 888Sport but, if you fancy an upset in LA, a 2-1 win for Montreal is at 16/1 with Bet365 again.
That would be nice to see and while form in this campaign is quite balanced, LA have threatened to kick on from a slow start and now look to be settling in as a new side following the loss of key players such as Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard.
Unfortunately, it therefore looks as though the Impact will have to wait another week at least before they can start to move forward at MLS 2017.
- Giovani Dos Santos to score the first goal at 4/1 with Bet365
- Matteo Mancosu to score any time at 5/2 with 32Red
- Over 3.5 Goals at 24/13 with 888Sport
