MLS matches have been extremely difficult to call across the start of the new campaign and as Montreal prepares to host Houston on Saturday night, we have yet another tight betting market ahead of kick off.
In the Eastern Conference, Impact are just one point off the bottom of the table, level on points with DC United and ahead only on goal difference. Over in the West, Dynamo are in a comfortable but unspectacular mid-table slot so who is going to give way when the teams clash at the Saputo Stadium?
We mentioned that the market here was very tight and none of the three possible outcomes has dipped below Even Money. Betway have Montreal Impact down as the favourites at 7/5 but victory for Houston Dynamo is close at 17/10 with William Hill while the draw completes the result betting at 28/11 with 188Bet.
The home win looks good at a fairly generous price but before we commit to it, who are the players primed to score the goals that will tip the match?
Individual Goal Scorers
Goalscoring markets have been very slow to open ahead of this game but we can still assess the key strikers and look at where you can place your bets when the prices are finally declared.
For Montreal Impact, Matteo Mancosu is an important player and a man who has delivered some occasional returns for us in the anytime goal markets. His overall record is a modest one with just seven league goals in 28 appearances since arriving in Montreal on a permanent basis in 2017 but we find he is one to watch, scoring important goals at important times.
But the player who could give you a profit in any of the goal scoring markets this weekend is Anthony Jackson-Hamel. The 24 year old Canadian international made headlines at the start of May with two goals in Impact’s win over New England Revolution and can be a big influence if he plays a bigger role in his club’s matches for the remainder of the campaign.
For Dynamo, Colombian Mauro Manotas wears the number nine shirt but Honduran international Alberth Elis is the man to watch here. The 22 year old has been the difference-maker for Crew this season and with eight goals in his first 12 MLS matches he would be our tip to score in 90 minutes as and when those scoring markets are opened.
Other Side Bets
Most of the usual prop bets do have a full set of prices so we can give three suggestions for a good parlay at the Saputo Stadium. Dynamo have scored four goals in two MLS games this week but Montreal Impact drew a blank in their 2-0 defeat away to Minnesota United last Sunday.
Both Teams to Score will be considered by many at a top price of 8/15 with William Hill and with Impact at home and Houston in productive form, it should come in but that figure looks a little too short to get us excited.
Instead, we’re going to punt on over 2.5 goals which we think is more certain even though it’s only marginally longer at 8/13 with William Hill again. Finally, a Correct Score bet of 2-1 in favour of Impact offers decent value at 8/1 with Betway.
We would have preferred to back Alberth Elis for an anytime goal and if you agree, you could replace one of the following in your parlay depending on your own thoughts
- Montreal Impact to win at 7/5 with Betway
- Over 2.5 Goals at 8/13 with William Hill
- Correct Score of Montreal Impact 2 Houston Dynamo 1 at 8/1 with Betway
