It is official: Toronto FC are OUT of the MLS Cup playoff race. Greg Vanney’s side have failed to inspire confidence throughout the 2018 campaign, winning just nine of their 32 Major League Soccer outings this year.
The 2017 champions have been the most disappointing team in the league and major changes are expected in the offseason. Whether Vanney keeps his job or not is yet to be seen…
There is some good news for Canadian soccer fans though; the Montreal Impact are still in with a decent chance of notching a postseason spot.
Currently seventh in the East, Montreal must win both matches to stand any chance of pipping their rivals to that coveted playoff berth. The visitors have lost just once in their last five league games and plenty of punters will fancy the road team to prevail this weekend.
Toronto blew Montreal out of the water in their most recent encounter, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes of the game. The Impact will be determined to avenge that defeat this weekend – the smart money is on a home triumph.
It will come as no surprise to regular Major League Soccer bettors to see Montreal priced up as 4/6 favourites to claim three points in this encounter.
The Impact have a great record on home turf and it would be foolish to back against the Canadian outfit on current form. This could get ugly for Toronto if the visitors are already in ‘holiday mode’ following their playoff elimination.
Don’t look past the draw though – a share of the spoils is currently available at 3/1. At this stage of the season, a draw won’t really help either side but that won’t stop punters from considering it.
After all, Toronto have nothing to lose and that should mean that the road team go all out to secure a positive result. Watch this space, it could turn out to be a rather entertaining affair.
7/2 for the visiting Toronto side is a decent price if you believe that Vanney’s men will play better with absolutely no pressure on their shoulders.
The 2017 MLS Cup winners have the talent on paper but their form this year is concerning at best and most Toronto players will be looking forward to the offseason. Backing a convincing road win would be unwise given their situation.
Goal Scorer Tips And Other Bets
As per with most Major League Soccer games, goals will be the order of the day in this one. Over 2.5 goals is available at 8/15 at the time of writing and plenty of punters will be looking to get involved at that price.
With nothing on the line for Toronto, expect the visitors to push hard for the win. Shocking their Canadian rivals and making Montreal miss out on the playoffs will at least give Toronto fans some bragging rights for the week.
Most fans will be expecting an exciting fixture this weekend – both teams are likely to push for the three points. Toronto’s main aim is to upset the apple cart whilst Montreal have genuine playoff ambitions.
This is not the easiest game to predict but, with so much riding on the outcome of this clash, the hosts have everything to play for and siding with the Impact may be wise. If you’re going to bet on an outright winner this weekend, go with Montreal.
