Toronto FC vs Atlanta United: Odds and Betting Preview

Jozy Altidore

Unbeaten Toronto play host to high-flying Atlanta on Saturday night and something has to give. The Canadian side are yet to taste defeat but three draws have hindered their chances of keeping pace at the top of the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Atlanta have been scoring for fun in recent weeks – they have netted more goals than all of their divisional rivals so far this season.

Match Odds

As of April 6th, Toronto are favourites for the win and punters will be tempted by the 4/7 on offer with Winner Sports. With three draws so far, some will fancy another stalemate and the 41/13 available with 10Bet is certainly tempting. Meanwhile, those backing MLS newbies Atlanta can get 4/1 with bet365 for the visitors to continue their rise to prominence.

Or perhaps you fancy a goal fest on Saturday night… with no previous form to consider, this is a difficult one but Atlanta’s prowess in front of goal could be enough to tempt bettors to check out the over line. At the time of writing, you can back over 2.5 goals at 4/7 with Betway.

Looking at their respective defensive records however, it could turn out to be a lipid affair in terms of attacking opportunities. If you fancy a goalless draw, 14/1 is available with a number of high-profile bookmakers including Bet365 and Stan James.

Individual goal scorers

When you talk about Toronto FC, there’s one man who stands out above his team mates. Former Italy international Sebastian Giovinco has been one of the best players in the MLS in recent years and punters can back him to notch a goal on Saturday night at 5/6 with bet365. If you fancy a riskier wager, 10/3 is available on Giovinco to open the scoring with the same firm.

Jozy Altidore has been Toronto’s main goal scorer so far this season and it would be foolish to ignore his achievements; both at club level and on the international stage. 15/4 with Bet365 for the 27-year-old to bag the opening goal is good value.

For Atlanta, Josef Martinez has been on fire – although he has now been ruled out for 4-6 weeks through injury. With five goals in just three appearances for the visitors, United will miss him upfront but former Premier League star Kenwyne Jones, currently 9/1 to score the opening goal with bet365, could step up in his absence.

Other Side bets

As previously mentioned, goals could be on the cards here and there may be value in other goal-related markets. For over 3.5 goals, bettors can get 29/20 with Winner Sports and it would be foolish to write that off just yet. Martinez may be out but Atlanta have enough competent replacements in attacking areas to cause Toronto a few problems.

If truth be told, both teams to score looks like an absolute certainty. Some may believe that 4/6 with Bet365 is a short enough price but it isn’t surprising when you consider how much attacking talent will be on show. If both sides bring their A-Game, this could be a very entertaining 90 minutes of football.

Trying to predict the correct score here could prove difficult but a slender home win might be the best shout. Toronto to edge it 2-1 looks well priced at 7/1 with Bet365 ahead of Saturday’s clash and bettors should consider going for that; 2/1 for the Canadian side to win with both teams scoring with 888Sportis also tempting.
