Charlotte @ Toronto: Odds and Betting Preview

We’re at that stage of the regular NBA season where many of the remaining matches will have little riding on them. That’s essentially the case at the Scotiabank Arena on Saturday as the Raptors get ready to host the Hornets with the sides at opposing ends of the cur.

Defending NBA Champions Toronto is set to progress to the next phase while Charlotte has experienced a mixed campaign that is about to come to a premature end. Eight places separate these teams in the Eastern Conference and that stat is clearly represented in the match odds.

Moneyline Odds

If you’re looking for some value ahead of Saturday’s clash then you’ll need to move away from the moneyline market. Toronto is clear and away at odds of just 1.08 with PowerPlay while the Charlotte Hornets are a distant second best at 7.63 with Sports Interaction.

The Hornets may be down in tenth place in the East but recent form is respectable with four wins from their last six. A 107-101 victory over the Knicks on Thursday ended a run of two straight losses and James Borrego’s side is in decent shape as they cross the border.

The form is identical for the Raptors with four wins in the last six but we need to add some context. The most recent loss was against NBA favourites the Bucks and most of those four victories have been emphatic. The 127-81 win over the Pacers is a case in point and we feel that the sportsbooks have got this one right.

Likely Prop Bets

Our NBA previews will always look to the prop bets in matches such as these and one place where we could find some value is in the total points markets. The Raptors’ last three games have been high scoring and have averaged out at a shade above 210.00 per game. As for the Hornets, the average is 202 in the same period and that reflects their lower standing in the table.

So where’s the value for this bet? We want an option that heads above odds of 2.00 and the pick is to go under 211.5 which is listed at 2.25 with Bodog.

If this game is going to be as one-sided as the sportsbooks suggest, we should perhaps be looking at Total Points for the Raptors only. 888Sport are quoting 1.80 for the Raptors to go above the 114.5 line and we feel that’s a safe option.

In regular-season games, Charlotte is leading the head-to-head stats by 44-38 but the most recent stats are the key. The Raptors have won the last two meetings including a 112-110 victory last time out. That win did need overtime but it was on the road and with home-court advantage, Saturday should be more comfortable for the Canadian side.

In terms of average points per game across the whole season, the Hornets are 30th in the overall NBA list with 102.5 and that’s why we’re confident in going under the 211.5 line. The Raptors may need to score all of those points as we expect Charlotte to be more subdued on the road.

For a safer option and to build up your Parlay, you can claim the Raptors at 1.08 for the win but the prop bets are there to enhance the potential profits from what should be a one-sided contest at the Scotiabank.

Best Bets:

  • Toronto Raptors to win at 1.08 with PowerPlay
  • Under 211.5 Points at 2.25 with Bodog
  • Over 114.5 points for the Raptors at 1.80 with 888Sport
