Indiana Pacers vs Toronto Raptors: Odds and Betting Preview

Posted in NBA Preview by No Comments

These two teams should know each other’s game inside out having met just two days prior to Friday’s clash. In that most recent match-up, the Raptors came through by the narrowest of one-point margins and that 119-118 scoreline was too close for comfort for Canadian supporters.

We’ve got an instant turnaround but can Toronto come through by a wider margin or will the Pacers exact revenge?

Moneyline Odds

Defending NBA Champions the Raptors are looking in good shape in the Eastern Conference and Wednesday’s victory over Indiana leaves Nick Nurse’s men in second place, albeit with a considerable gap behind league leaders the Bucks. The Pacers are close in fifth and those standings, coupled with the nature of the previous match leave the tightest possible result market.

Most sportsbooks have Toronto and Indiana locked at the same win odds. The Raptors are available at 1.90 with Powerplay while the Pacers can also be picked up at 1.90 – this time with Bet365.

As the action switches to Indiana’s Bankers Field Lifehouse Stadium, the home-court advantage may just be enough to swing the result. We’ll come back to this in our verdict but if those odds make it uncomfortable in terms of picking a winner, we can move on to the prop bets.

Likely Prop Bets

A total of 237 points were racked up between these two sides earlier this week so that gives us an indicator for our first prop bet of the night. Sports Interaction is quoting odds of 1.91 to go over a fixed point line of 218.5 and that should be safe enough. The Pacers are averaging 109.6 per game this year while Toronto is up at 112.7.

We’d like to maybe push that total a little higher but that’s as far as we can go right now. The sportsbooks seem reluctant to offer any odds above 2.00 but we’ll keep searching for some value.

We’d expect the Raptors to exceed 108.5 points but once again, the figures are kept in check with Spin Sports quoting just 1.86. The best pick may just lie in the Winning Margin market where PowerPlay has odds of 7.50 on Toronto to claim victory by between 1 and 4 points. Backers of the Pacers can get that same 7.50 price with PowerPlay on their team to win by that same fragile margin.

If it’s as tight as the betting suggests, you could even take a small hedge by taking two separate winning margin bets on each team. Naturally, you cannot combine them in the same parlay but the option is worth keeping in mind.

While our NBA previews will look to favour the reigning champions where possible, it’s hard to back either team with any conviction here. The game should be as tight as the market forecasts and for the neutrals, they can shed any nerves and just sit back to watch a thriller.

Home court advantage should be taken into account but so should recent form and the Pacers come into this match on the back of three straight defeats. The key lies in the Raptors’ defence: Nick Nurse’s men have the fifth tightest backline in the NBA this season and it’s rare for them to concede 118 points as they did earlier in the week. Indiana will feel flat after that loss and momentum is another reason why we’re looking for Toronto to come through.

Best Bets:

  • Toronto Raptors to win at 1.90 with PowerPlay
  • Over 218.5 Total Game Points at 1.91 with Sports Interaction
  • Toronto Raptors to win by 1-4 points at 7.50 with PowerPlay
