The short wait for the return of NBA action ends Tuesday with the opening of the 2021-2022 NBA regular season schedule. Two key contests are on the opening night slate, starting in Milwaukee, where the Bucks begin the defence of the NBA title with a visit from this season’s early championship favourites, the Brooklyn Nets. Later on Tuesday night, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers look to rebound from last summer’s early departure from the NBA playoffs as they host the Golden State Warriors as home favourites. Wednesday night will mark the long-awaited return of the Toronto Raptors to their home at Air Canada Centre, where they open their schedule against the visit Washington Wizards as slim betting chalk.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks will open their 2021-2022 NBA season by raising their championship banner into the rafters at Fiserv Forum before hitting the hardwood for their home opener against the Brooklyn nets as slim 1-point underdogs on the NBA odds at Betway. The Bucks find themselves once again battling for respect at the sportsbooks despite returning to action with their championship core largely intact.

Once again, the Bucks attack will be led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. The two-time NBA MVP and the hero of the Bucks’ march to their first NBA championship in a half-century, the “Greek Freak” will once again be the straw that stirs the drink in Milwaukee. However, Giannis will be surrounded by a strong supporting cast that includes Jrue Holliday and Khris Middleton as they seek to open their season with a win for the fourth time in five seasons.
Milwaukee has also regularly dominated the Nets in meetings on the home court. In addition to winning all four home games in last season’s second-round playoff matchup with Brooklyn, the Bucks have taken nine of 12 home meetings from the Nets in regular-season action. The question now is whether they can maintain that pace against the Nets, who open the campaign leading the way on the NBA championship odds.
“I’m told that Kyrie has no plans to get vaccinated. … He’s leaving another $16M on the table as well as a potential $185M extension, so he stands to lose about $200M.” — @ShamsCharania pic.twitter.com/6xYWVyHfqY

The Nets battled to a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings last season despite being racked by injury. The club returns to action in largely good health, but has been forced to deal with the off-court distraction caused by the team’s decision to suspend star Kyrie Irving for his refusal to adhere to mandates that require all NBA players to be vaccinated. While the Nets have been in the spotlight during the offseason and return amid high expectations, it is the Bucks that offer the betting value on a night they will dearly wish to celebrate with a statement win.
The Pick: Bucks +1 (1.91) at Betway
Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have lots to prove after their stunning first-round departure from last season’s playoffs. That is reflected on the NBA opening night odd at Sports Interaction, where they are pegged as 5.5-point home chalk in their date with the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers went the veteran route during the offseason with the addition of players like Russell Westbrook, Dwight Howard, and Carmelo Anthony. While the addition of that experience should help the Lakers improve on their disappointing seventh-place finish in the Western Conference standings, patience will be a virtue. Questions linger as to how long it will take for this team to gel after racking up a dismal 0-6 preseason record.

Conversely, hope springs eternal for the Warriors as they return to action aiming to end a two-season playoff drought. Golden State should benefit from a return to full health by Stephen Curry. And while the Warriors faithful continue to patiently await Klay Thompson’s return, they have taken comfort in Jordan Poole’s preseason performance. The 22-year-old has filled the void by leading the team in scoring in three of their first four preseason contests. Facing no pressure, look for the Dubs to spoil the Lakers’ opening night party

Washington Wizards vs. Toronto Raptors
On Wednesday night, the Toronto Raptors make their long-awaited return to their home court at Air Canada Centre as they take on the visiting Washington Wizards as 3.5-point chalk in NBA betting odds. With cross-border travel banned, the Raptors were forced to play the entirety of last season at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay and closed the campaign outside the playoff picture for the first time in eight years.

No doubt, this Raptors squad returns as a work in progress and will be missing their heart and soul after seeing veteran Kyle Lowry leave town for Miami during the offseason. Growing pains are expected as players like OG Anunoby and rookie sensation Scotttie Barnes continue to develop.

However, the Raptors open up the campaign with a favourable matchup against the Wizards, who find themselves at a crossroads after finishing last season with a middling 34-38 record. Washington ended a 10-game SU losing streak against the Raptors with a slim 131-129 win in early May. But with the Air Canada Centre expected to be at full capacity for the first time since March 2020, Wednesday’s contest is Toronto’s to lose.
The Pick: Raptors -3.5 (1.91)
