NBA Best Bets: Raptors Wrap Up Road Trip in Indiana as Betting Underdogs

The Toronto Raptors will be looking to close out their current six-game road trip on a winning note when they visit the Indiana Pacers on Friday as 3.5-point road underdogs at Betway. The Raptors are coming off a decisive 126-113 victory in Memphis on Wednesday night, and have now posted a pair of wins through the first five games of their current Western swing. The Pacers get set to hit the floor as home favourites on Friday night despite coming up short in a 124-116 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Lakers as strong 6.5-point home chalk on Wednesday night. Following Friday night’s contest, the Raptors return to Scotiabank Arena in time to kick off a crucial seven-game homestand that begins with a visit from the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

Raptors vs Pacers Betting Trends

Friday night’s matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse marks the third meeting of the season between these Eastern Conference rivals. The two teams played a home-and-home series at the end of October, with the Raptors emerging victorious in each of those contests, including a 97-94 win in Indiana on October 30. That marks a turnaround for Toronto after the club dropped two of three to the Pacers last season, with both defeats coming by wide double-digit margins. However, the Raptors have historically held the upper hand when facing the Pacers, going 11-4 SU in 15 head-to-head clashes since November 2017.

The Raptors have also regularly rewarded sports bettors when facing Indiana, posting ATS wins in their two victories earlier this season, and now sport a 6-1 ATS record in their past seven road dates with the pacers. While their recent win in Indiana easily paid out for sports bettors taking the UNDER, it also marked the first time in 10 meetings that neither of these teams cracked 100 points. That is reflected in recent results in total betting, with the OVER in seven of their past 11 clashes.

News & Notes

The Raptors enjoyed their biggest offensive outburst of the season in Wednesday’s victory over the Grizzlies, but still have work to do to rediscover the touch that powered them to a respectable 6-3 SU start. The club has lost outright in seven of 10 outings since, and have been equally disappointing against the spread during that stretch.

The club has enjoyed the benefit of improved health after enduring a rash of injuries early, most notably to Pascal Siakam. However, the status of OG Anunoby remains in doubt as to the clock ticks toward tip-off on Friday’s matchup. Anunoby had established himself as the raptors’ leading scorer while racking up 20.1 points per game through his first 15 outings. However, he has been sidelined for the past four games by a hip injury that also leaves him listed as questionable against Indiana.

The Pacers saw a two-game SU win streak snapped with Wednesday’s loss to the Lakers. The loss comes as a particularly harsh blow to Indiana. The Pacers led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter but eventually needed a three-pointer from Chris Duarte with just 6.5 seconds left to force overtime.

Indy’s collapse on Wednesday extends the club’s continued struggles to generate consistent offence in the fourth quarter. The Pacers have been limited to 20 or fewer fourth-quarter points in four of their past six outings and averaged just 49.5 points after recess in their two dates with Toronto this season.

The Picks: Raptors to win (2.40); UNDER 211 (1.90) at Betway

Raptors Betting Update

The Raptors’ current 3-7 SU slide has dumped the team out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference standings, and erased any gains they had made on the odds to win the Atlantic Division at Sports Interaction, where they now lag as 52.50 longshots.  Toronto has also faded from its season-opening position among the season-opening NBA championship betting picks. However, the team hopes to redeem themselves on their upcoming homestand, starting with Sunday’s date against the Celtics.

Toronto has split a pair of meetings with the Celtics so far this season, capped by a 104-88 defeat at TD Garden on November 10. The Raptors also ride a seven-game SU losing streak against Boston on home court, and have failed to cover in each of those contests, but can look forward to facing a Celtics squad that rides a 1-3 SU away run into a two-game road trip that starts in San Antonio on Sunday.
