NBA Best Bets: Raptors Aim to Rebound on West Coast Swing

The Toronto Raptors will be aiming to put the brakes on a slump that has left them perched precariously on the playoff bubble in the Eastern Conference when they continue their current six-game road trip in Utah on Thursday as 9-point underdogs on the NBA odds at Sports Interaction. The Raptors have cooled off considerably since opening November on a five-game straight-up win streak, falling to defeat in five of six contests since. The Utah Jazz are also looking to regain their steady season-opening form as they return to Vivint Arena on Thursday in search of just their third win in seven outings

Toronto Raptors vs Utah Jazz -9

Team Records
Raptors – 7-8 SU, 6-9 ATS (10th place, Eastern Conference)
Jazz – 9-5 SU, 8-6 ATS (T-4th place, Western Conference)

The Toronto Raptors turned heads across the NBA with their hot start. After taking a major step back last season, the Raptors stormed out of the gate, making an early claim to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference during a 6-3 SU run fueled by a five-game win streak. However, the club has since fallen flat, posting just one win in six outings, capped by a 118-13 loss in Portland as 3-point underdogs on Monday night.

The Raptors have generated steady offence during their recent 5-0 SU run, averaging almost 110 points per game during that stretch. However, that production has dried up during their current slide. The club averaged just 97.3 points per game during the first three losses on their current skid. And while they have shown signs of regaining their offensive touch in their past two outings, they have struggled badly in a bid to shut down opposing shooters in their past two outings, surrendering a hefty 122.5 points per game. In addition to dipping them to 10th place in the conference standings, the Raptors have steadily disappointed sports bettors, posting just one against the spread in their past six contests.

Jazz Battling Inconsistency

The Jazz face some inconsistency issues of their own as they get set to face the Raptors on home hardwood for just the second time since March 2020. Perched among the favourites in the preseason NBA championship betting picks, the Jazz took home SU victories in seven of their first eight contests. But like Toronto, the Jazz have since taken a step back, with just two wins in their past six outings.

The upside for Utah is the club’s performance in a 120-85 demolition of the visiting Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night, which marked the squad’s biggest victory so far this season. However, the Jazz have failed to string together consecutive SU victories during their two-week long 2-4 SU run, which has featured a pair of stunning outright losses to the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat, both as lofty home chalk.

Further complicating matters for the Jazz is their spotty track record in head-to-head meetings with Toronto. Utah escaped with a pair of narrow wins over the Raptors last season, marking the first time since 2012 that the Jazz have beaten Toronto in consecutive games. However, they sport a meagre 2-6 SU record in their past eight home dates with the Raptors and have produced just one ATS win in 16 overall meetings, including a 0-4-1 ATS mark as home favourites.

The Picks: Raptors +9 (1.91) at Sports Interaction

Raptors Betting Update

Following Thursday’s contest in Utah, the Raptors continue their current western swing in Sacramento on Friday before battling the rival Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Toronto racked up seven straight outright wins over the Kings before being handed a 126-124 loss on the home court back in January. The Raptors will have a golden opportunity to rebound from that loss against a slumping Kings squad that opened the week amid a four-game road trip and with just one SU victory in their past five contests.

Things will get exponentially tougher for the Raptors when they hit the hardwood at Chase Center for Sunday’s date with the Warriors. Golden State has shown signs of returning to their previous dynastic ways while opening their campaign on a league-leading 12-2 SU run. Showing no signs of the injuries that have plagued him over the past two years, Stephen Curry has fueled the Warriors’ resurgence. The two-time NBA MVP is currently second in the NBA scoring race with 28.7 points per game and will be highly motivated to lead the Dubs to just their fourth SU win in 12 dates with Toronto.
