As Canada’s only representative in the National Basketball Association, the Toronto Raptors made history in 2019 by claiming their first-ever NBA Championship. It’s always tough to make a successful defense but while Nick Nurse’s men have struggled at times this year, a playoff berth beckons and from that point, a second consecutive title remains a possibility.
In this preview we will look at what’s next for the Raptors and we’ll discuss the long term bets that are on the table as they continue to fly the flag for Canada.

Toronto has enjoyed something of a rare break in a hectic schedule and the next challenge for Nurse’s men is on Saturday, March 14 when they take on the Pistons. From there, we’re back to quick turnarounds as the Raptors tackle the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers in the space of four days.
The initial respite could be crucial as Toronto have endured their fair share of injuries in recent weeks. Absences are a standard part of this gruelling sport but with Marc Gasol and Fred VanVleet already on the sidelines, the Raptors saw Norman Powell limp out of their most recent victory over the Jazz.
In terms of betting on the upcoming games, odds are not available from our recommended partners at the time of writing. We would, however, expect a comfortable evening against the Pistons who are down in 13th place in the Eastern Conference so you can start by taking a modest profit in the moneyline market for that one.
Long Term Bets
In lieu of individual match odds coming in, it’s time to switch up and look at those long term bets. Before we can consider a second NBA Championship, we need to make sure that Toronto is going to be involved in the playoffs. It’s a sure bet with no markets available so next up is the Eastern Conference betting.
Here we have a clear favourite in the shape of the Milwaukee Bucks who can be backed at odds of 1.50 with PowerPlay. The Toronto Raptors may be in second place in the standings at the time of writing but that position isn’t reflected in the odds. The Boston Celtics are the second-favourites to win in the east at +500 with Bodog while Toronto follows at 7.00 with Sports Interaction.
At least the Raptors get the sportsbooks’ support when it comes to winning the Atlantic Division. The Canadian unit is available at 1.65 with Sports Interaction once again and that could be the safest bet contained within this round-up.
The Big One
At this advanced stage of the season, we simply have to take a look at the outright betting for the 2020 NBA Championship. We’ve already seen that the Bucks are hot favourites to win the Eastern Conference and they lead the way in terms of Championship betting too at odds of 3.40 with PowerPlay.
Second favorites in this market are the LA Lakers at 3.60 with 888Sport while the LA Clippers follow at 4.10 with 10Bet. This isn’t encouraging news for backers of the Raptors and we have to move down to tenth position where Nick Nurse’s men are quoted at 21.00 with Bet365.
It’s tough to see past the Bucks in this market but for now, keep checking our NBA previews as we monitor Toronto’s progress and we’ll leave you with these three picks.
- Toronto Raptors to beat Detroit Pistons (When Available)
- Toronto Raptors to win the Atlantic Division at 1.65 with Sports Interaction
- Milwaukee Bucks to win the NBA Championship at 3.40 with PowerPlay
