NFL Conference Finals: Odds and Betting Preview

Posted in NFL Preview by No Comments

The 100th season of the NFL is drawing to a close and this Sunday, January 19th, four teams will battle it out for the right to compete at Super Bowl LIV. The Titans, the Chiefs, the Packers and the 49ers are all in with a shout as we start to look towards the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on February 2nd.

All four teams will be hopeful of progressing but the sportsbooks have identified two clear favourites in these Conference Finals.

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs

The first of our match ups puts the Titans up against the Chiefs and in the Moneyline market the odds setters have come down heavily on the side of Kansas City. You can pick up the Chiefs at 1.25 with PowerPlay while a wager on the Titans will return 3.75 with Bet365.

It’s easy to see why this conclusion has been reached. Kansas City Chiefs finished the regular season at the top of AFC West with a 12-4 record and a win percentage of .750. Tennessee Titans came through in second place in AFC South at 9-7 and .563. Comparatively, the greater depth is with the Chiefs and we expect them to progress painlessly.

There are a number of prop bets but the spread doesn’t come up with much value. One stake that we would be looking at would be the 2.25 from Sports Interaction on the first scoring play being a Chiefs’ touchdown.

Green Bay Packers vs San Francisco 49ers

Once again, we have a clear favourite and the result odds are similar to our first game. The 49ers lead the way here and can be claimed at 1.32 with Bodog, leaving the Packers out at 3.80 with Spin Sports. In this instance, the regular season return and win percentages are identical.

Both Green Bay and San Francisco finished with records of 13-3 and a percentage at .813 as they topped their respective divisions so the odds are based on the respective quality within the two rosters.

In terms of prop bets for this one, the 49ers to win by 7-12 points could be a generous option at 5.00 with PowerPlay if the outcome is closer than the bookies expect. If it is a low scorer, no team to reach 20 points including overtime could be considered at 6.50 with 888Sport.

Verdict

The demise of the New England Patriots ahead of these Conference Finals shows that we shouldn’t take anything for granted but it is hard to argue with the straight result markets. You can form a parlay involving the Chiefs and the 49ers both to win in order to boost the profits while there are alternatives such as the 1.67 on offer from 10Bet on San Francisco and Green Bay to reach the Super Bowl.

If there is to be an upset, it could come in the first game: The Titans don’t mind being on the road and their strong defence has already returned success at Gillette Stadium and M & T Bank Stadium this season.

Defense is key in the second game too where the 49ers have allowed an average of just 154.3 passing yards at their Levi Stadium.

We’re not expecting shocks but if you consider these three options, we could still earn some value from this weekend’s Conference Finals.

Best Bets:

  • Parlay Chiefs and 49ers to win with PowerPlay or Bet365
  • Chiefs v Titans: First Scoring Play to be a Chiefs Touchdown at 2.25 with Sports Interaction
  • Packers v 49ers: San Francisco 49ers to win by 7-12 points at 5.00 with Power Play
