NFL Week 15 Best Bets: Patriots vs Colts Odds & Picks

Saturday night action returns to the NFL in Week 15 with a key AFC matchup, as the Indianapolis Colts host the New England Patriots as slim 2-point favourites on the NFL odds at Sports Interaction. The Patriots return to action after a Week 14 bye riding a seven-game straight-up win streak that has lifted them to the top of the AFC East standings. The Colts also enjoyed a bye last weekend, and maintain a tenuous grasp on the second wild card in the AFC after claiming SU wins in six of their past eight outings.

Patriots vs Colts Betting Matchup

Saturday night’s matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium marks the first and only scheduled meeting between these teams this season. The Patriots have dominated the Colts in head-to-head action over the past decade, winning outright in eight straight overall meetings since November 2009, while going 6-2 ATS. That run features a pair of Patriots wins in Indianapolis, capped by a 34-27 victory in October 2015. However, it was the Colts that covered in that contest while pegged as 8.5-point home underdogs.

The Colts have also won outright in three of four matchups with New England while pegged as betting favourites. However, they have been a massive betting disappointment, covering just once in 18 meetings with New England as betting chalk since 1988. Indianapolis has also lost outright in three of their past five overall when favoured by three or fewer points.

New England Patriots News & Notes

Little was expected this season from the Patriots, as they continued to rebuild in the wake of Tom Brady’s departure from the team at the conclusion of the 2019 campaign. Listed well off the pace on the season-opening Super Bowl 56 odds, hose expectations appeared to be warranted early on, with the Pats stumbling to a 2-4 SU start while averaging just 20.8 points per game.

Mac Jones’ emergence as a legitimate NFL starting quarterback has played a huge role in the Patriots’ success. Jones was limited to just three pass attempts in the team’s 14-10 win on a stormy night in Buffalo two weeks ago. However, he has still managed to toss nine scoring passes against just two picks during the team’s 7-0 run, earning him serious consideration for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honours.

The Patriots’ defence has also stepped up during the team’s resurgence, limiting opponents to just 5.2 points per game over their past five contests. The New England defence is also ranked third in the NFL in total yards per game allowed, with 310.0, and has held opposing pivots to an average of just 139.3 passing yards and one total TD over their past three road contests.

Indianapolis Colts News & Notes

The Colts will be desperate for a win to maintain their grasp on a playoff spot in the AFC when they hit the gridiron on Saturday night. While Indianapolis maintains control of the second wild card, they find themselves deadlocked in the playoff standings at 7-6 with four rivals, including the Bills, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and Denver Broncos.

Things look to be trending in the right direction for Indy, which has won seven of 10 since opening the season on a three-game SU losing streak. The Colts offence has found its groove during the team’s recent surge, averaging 32.1 points per game over their past eight contests. However, containing opposing offences has been problematic at times for the Colts, who have allowed 30 or more points in three of their past four home contests, capped by a 38-31 loss to Tampa Bay in their last home outing three weeks ago.

That adds to the pressure on quarterback Carson Wentz, who has connected on three scoring tosses in three of his past six outings. Wentz was shut down in his lone previous appearance against New England, throw for one TD while getting sacked five times while leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 17-10 loss two years ago.

Best Bets: Colts -2 (1.91); OVER 45.5 (1.91)
