Islanders vs Oilers Betting Trends
Friday night’s matchup marks the second and final regular-season meeting between these two clubs. The Islanders eked out a narrow 3-2 win over Edmonton on home ice back on New Year’s Day, ending a two-game losing streak versus the Oilers. However, the Isles have failed to tallied wins in consecutive meetings with Edmonton in nine meetings since February 2016. The Oilers have claimed victory on six occasions over that nine-game stretch, and have gone 8-1-0 in nine home clashes with the Islanders since 2003.

Recent clashes between these teams have tended to be high-scoring affairs. However, the Oilers also found themselves mired in an offensive slump when they visited New York on January 1, mustering just 19 shots goal in their overtime loss. And overall, the UNDER has paid out in 14 of the past 20 overall head-to-head meetings.
New York Islanders News & Notes
The Islanders wasted no time seizing the upper hand in Wednesday’s victory in Vancouver, potting five first-period goals in arguably their most dominant offensive performance so far this season. The club received contributions from up and down the lineup, with six different players finding the back of the net, and 13 different Islanders players recording at least a point.

However, the Islanders could certainly use more steady production from their biggest offensive weapons. Mat Barzal has shown signs of rebounding from a recent five-game scoring slump by scoring goals in four of his past six outings. Things have not gone so well for Josh Bailey, who has scored just two goals in 23 outings since recovering from a bout of COVID-19, and has been held pointless in four straight contests.
With goals coming at a premium for the Oilers, look for Friday’s date with the Islanders to be low scoring
Edmonton Oilers News & Notes
For the second time in as many outings, the Oilers were stymied by a hot goaltender in Wednesday’s loss to Chicago. Edmonton shooters were consistently frustrated by reigning Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury, who turned aside 40 of 41 shots to lead the Blackhawks to victory. That loss came on the heels of Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of the visiting Vegas Golden Knights, with Laurent Brossoit earning the shutout with 28 saves.

Complicating matters for the Oilers has been their tendency towards slow starts of late. Edmonton has surrendered the first goal in eight of their past 10 contests, a trend that finally caught up with head coach Dave Tippett, who was fired in the wake of the club’s loss to Chicago. The arrival of Evander Kane has yet to have a meaningful impact on the Oilers’ fortunes. The controversial forward has tallied two goals and two assists in five outings since making his Edmonton debut, but has failed to score in two home appearances.
