As per usual, the race for top spot in the Atlantic Division is incredibly tight. With just six points separating the top six teams, it might just be the most competitive division in the National Hockey League.
Toronto, currently fourth in the standings, have a 9-7-4 record so far this year and plenty of punters will be backing the Maple Leafs to go far in the postseason. Can Toronto fans start dreaming of Stanley Cup glory? It’s probably a little early at this stage of the year…
The Maple Leafs have lost three NHL games in a row ahead of this weekend’s fixture but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Toronto bounce back here. Beating the high-flying Bruins would certainly go down well with the Scotiabank Arena faithful.
Currently sitting pretty at the top of the Atlantic Division standings, Boston are setting the pace in the race for supremacy in the Eastern Conference. Despite losing four in a row, a win for the Bruins will cement their status as the Atlantic’s leading contenders.
Without further ado, it is time to look at the best bets ahead of this one. Toronto are slight favourites at 13/15 with 888Sport but the Bruins will take some stopping. This one is evenly poised ahead of what should be a thrilling affair.
Event Date: November 15, 2019
Toronto Must Succeed Sooner Rather Than Later
The Maple Leafs cannot afford to fall short in their pursuit of Stanley Cup glory for much longer. Toronto have the strength in depth to challenge for ice hockey’s top prize but the team always seems to fall short when it matters most of all.
Auston Matthews is one of the top talents in ice hockey and Maple Leafs fans will expect big things from him in the remainder of 2019/20. With 26 points in just 20 games, Matthews has been sensational so far this season but Toronto continue to disappoint.
Defensively, the Maple Leafs have been found wanting at times this season. Conceding 67 goals in 20 NHL games is unacceptable for a team looking to challenge at the business end of the season. Watch this space, Toronto must improve defensively to compete for titles.
Bruins Looking To Bounce Back After 2018/19 Loss
Boston suffered a disappointing defeat in the Stanley Cup finals last year but the Bruins are well placed to make amends for that loss at the first time of asking. Buoyed by that defeat, Boston look determined to top the Atlantic Division this season.
A run of four defeats in a row ahead of this encounter is hardly ideal but Boston can build momentum by using this as the catalyst to embark on a positive run. Winning on the road against a divisional rival will certainly lift spirits at TD Garden.
You won’t find too many punters backing a one-sided affair this weekend. Toronto are primed to send out a statement of intent with a hard-fought victory but Boston will take some stopping. This has all the makings of an exciting contest.
If Matthews performs at his brilliant best, his impact alone may be enough to swing this in favour of the Maple Leafs. The first goal here is going to be crucial and Toronto’s main man is worth backing to step up with the opener.
The bet of the night is for over 5.5 goals though. Toronto and Boston know each other well and we could be set for an exciting and open encounter. Neutrals won’t want to miss this one…
TIP: Over 5.5 goals (4/7 with 888Sport)
CORRECT SCORE: Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 Boston Bruins
