With the 2019/20 National Hockey League season in full swing, attention turns to Saturday’s big game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Toronto are currently flying high in the Atlantic Division, sitting just two wins behind current leaders Boston Bruins but the Maple Leafs are in red hot form after recording three victories in a row.
Two of those wins have come at Scotiabank Arena and the home crowd will be expecting big things ahead of this weekend’s clash. At the time of writing, the Maple Leafs are valued at 4/7 to win with 888Sport.
Head coach Mike Babcock is one of the best in the business and he will be relying on all of his experience to lead Toronto to the playoffs this year. On current form, there’s no reason why fans shouldn’t dream of Stanley Cup success.
However, supporters won’t be getting carried away just yet. The immediate focus is on the Philadelphia Flyers – the Metropolitan Division side have been hit and miss this year but are always capable of producing a big performance.
With an 8-5-2 record through 15 games, the Flyers have blown hot and cold but they head into this clash off the back of six wins in their last 10 games. Momentum is key in ice hockey and that bodes well for this weekend.
If Philadelphia perform, this could be one of the games of the weekend. NHL neutrals, this is the match to follow on Saturday night.
Event Date: November 9, 2019
Toronto Looking To Make Impact On Playoffs
Toronto have reached the NHL playoffs in each of the last three years but the Maple Leafs have crashed out at the first hurdle on all three occasions.
An agonising Game 7 defeat to the Boston Bruins scuppered their chances of a first Stanley Cup crown since 1967 and that loss was made worse as Boston went on to reach hockey’s showpiece series.
This weekend, it is all about victory. Toronto are in fine form and a fourth successive victory will certainly keep the Scotiabank Arena faithful happy. And with Auston Matthews notching 19 points in 17 games this year, you won’t find many punters backing against them.
Matthews has been simply sublime since making the step up to the National Hockey League in 2016. Selected with the first pick in that draft class, the Toronto star has lived up to his lofty reputation and a first Hart Memorial Trophy looks likely.
Don’t Write The Flyers Off Just Yet…
Philadelphia have won just two of their eight road games this season but the Flyers have shown promise in most of those encounters. A run of form back at Wells Fargo Center has changed the mood around the team and confidence is certainly high right now.
Travis Konecny has been simply sublime this campaign, notching 16 points in 15 NHL games. He leads the team in assists and is level with Oskar Lindblom for goals with seven – Toronto will be keeping a close eye on the Canadian star this weekend.
An exciting, open encounter awaits at Scotiabank Arena this weekend. With both teams in fine form, it bodes to be an entertaining affair and an early goal could set the tone for the rest of the night.
In front of an expectant home crowd, it is difficult to look past Toronto here. You won’t get much value in backing a Maple Leafs victory but the hosts will be tough to stop if Matthews is in the mood.
MarathonBet are offering 59/50 for over 6.5 goals on Saturday night, which tells you that a high scoring game is expected. All eyes will be on Scotiabank Arena this weekend – fingers crossed it lives up to the hype.
