The new MLS season is almost upon us but before Montreal’s domestic campaign gets underway, there is the considerable matter of a Thursday’s return leg against Costa Rican outfit Deportivo Saprissa.
It’s a Round of 16 ties and the teams cancelled each other out in the first game which ended in a 2-2 draw. Can Thierry Henry’s Impact use home advantage to reach the quarter-finals or will Deportivo upset the odds?

The benefit of that home advantage has helped Montreal to head the moneyline market and you can pick up Impact at odds of 2.00 with Spin Sports. Victory for Saprissa is the next available option at 3.34 with Sports Interaction while the draw completes things at 3.50 with 10Bet.
Pre Season games are always tough to call because we have little form to help make an assessment. Saprissa has been playing, however, as the Costa Rican Primera Division has reached its halfway stage. On Sunday, Deportivo warmed up nicely as a hat trick from Christian Bolanos led to a 3-1 victory over UCR.
It promises to be a tight 90 minutes on Thursday and, while we’re edging towards another draw in normal time, we’ll consider some props now before coming back to our verdict.
Likely Prop Bets
Individual goalscorer betting isn’t available at the time of writing on Monday. The sportsbooks have been slow to react to Deportivo’s game on at the weekend but this could show some interest when it does arrive. Obviously, we’d have to look at Christian Bolanos who was in potent form on Sunday while goals from Orji Okwonkwo and Romell Quioto gave Montreal an early 2-0 lead in the first leg.
For now, there are plenty of team props and we should be able to locate some nice prices in those markets. Over 2.5 Total Goals generally offer a relatively safe line and this is listed at 1.76 with Spin Sports. Both of the Saprissa games that we’ve mentioned have featured four goals so you could look to push that Over 3.5 to claim improved odds at 2.90 with Spin Sports once again.

As an alternative to the overs and unders markets, 10Bet will allow you to stake on four goals exactly and this will currently return a tempting price of 4.85.
Both Teams to Score is a popular prop bet and, based on the games that we’ve assessed so far, it looks a likely option for Thursday night’s encounter. It’s a little short, at odds of 1.62 with Sports Interaction but that relatively low price is intended to balance out our two initial tips for this contest.
We suspect that this could be much tighter than the moneyline market suggests. It may be true that Montreal Impact has the greater depth of quality within their squad but they have been dormant for the last few weeks while Deportivo Saprissa is at the halfway point in their domestic season.
We feel that the two factors will cancel each other out over 90 minutes and we’re therefore opting for the draw. Impact should proceed but they may need to go beyond normal time to progress to the quarters.
It should be an entertaining affair and our two goals tips reflect this. Remember, all of the following bets are for 90 minutes only and will exclude any extra period.
- The Draw After 90 Minutes at 3.50 with 10Bet
- Over 3.5 Goals at 2.90 with Spin Sports
- Both Teams to Score at 1.62 with Sports Interaction
