NHL Betting Preview: Canadian Teams in Play

All the Canadian teams are action in tonight, and coincidentally they are all playing at home. There are some important games tonight that will determine playoffs spots and should make for great betting.

Boston @ Ottawa

Ottawa has had an amazing surge on the back of their call-up goaltender, Andrew Hammond who has given them a real chance to get the last playoff spot. 11-0-1 in their last 12 games the Sens have worked hard to get a chance of making it in this year, and they are doing it in dramatic fashion as a goaltender has not had such an amazing start in 76-years, who pulled out an entertaining 2-1 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday to tie that start. With 79 points, 4 behind the Bruins, they are playing them tonight, and if they can pull off another win, they will pull into one game of a playoff spot. An amazing run for a team who 2 weeks ago was way out of contention.

Our Pick: Sens over Bruins, 2-1

San Jose @ Toronto

With lots of drama going on in San Jose over captaincy and comments made in the media by the Shark’s captain Joe Thornton and his verbal beatdown of GM Doug Wilson, the Sharks are probably happy to get out of town for a while and visit a team that is having more troubles than they are. Coming into town losing their last 2, they face Toronto whose popular centre, Nazem Kadri has just been handed down a 4-game suspension for his head on Monday night against an Edmonton player. Toronto is aching to get through their last 11 games and finish off what has been a disastrous season. If the Sharks can focus on the game at hand they should be able to gobble up the Leafs.

Our Pick: Sharks over Leafs, 6 plus goals

St. Louis @ Winnipeg

The Blues sit atop the Central division with 95 points with Nashville nipping at their heels. They would love to solidify their top position with a win in Winnipeg tonight – but that will not be so easy as playing in the MTS Centre is always difficult with the rowdy crowd hyped to cheer on its team. The Jets are coming off two greats wins and are only 3 points behind Minnesota to lock in the top wildcard spot. Calgary is close behind them, by 1 point so getting a win now is more important than it’s ever been. Expect a tough and drawn out battle for these 2 points.

Our Pick: Jets over Blue in overtime

Carolina @ Montreal

The Habs have not been as sharp as of late, they are only 4-4-2 in their last 10, and Tampa is right behind them looking for top spot in the Atlantic division. It’s possible that coaching staff might give Cary Price a rest tonight against the lowly Carolina Hurricane, as their star goaltender will need to be well rested for a possibly long playoff run – and that means that Carolina could have a chance to steal a game. Hurricanes, who are in the league’s bottom five when it comes to goals per game, are a top 10 team when it comes to producing scoring chances. So possible familiarity with Price if he plays, could be the key to Carolina’s success tonight. If their percentages are any indication, the ‘Canes shoot like they’re playing Carey Price game in and game out so it should be an exciting game. The Habs have already dispatched Carolina twice this year, and with March 2 trade deadline behind us, the Hurricanes find themselves even weaker.

Our Pick: Habs over Canes, 4-2
