Football makes a welcome in tentative return to the sporting calendar this weekend with Germany the first to break ground. The Bundesliga is back with nine games scheduled and there is still much to play for.
Bayern Munich is homing in on a successful title defence but there are challenges from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. Relegation spots are also open to confirmation so let’s get on and see exactly what’s in store across three days of action.
Bundesliga League Leaders Odds & Picks
The Bundesliga returns with Bayern Munich holding a four-point lead over the chasing pack and on Sunday, the table-toppers travel to face Union Berlin. Against a side in 11th place, Bayern is clear favourites with bet365 among a number of sportsbooks quoting odds of 1.20 for the away win. Powerplay is quoting 12.00 on victory for Union Berlin while the draw completes things at 5.60 with Sports Interaction.
We’re not expecting an upset here and while odds of 1.20 might look too short, there is the added benefit of live Bundesliga streaming if you play with bet365. Geo-restrictions apply and a funded account or bet placement in prior 24 hours is required to access but you can watch from Canada so it’s all good.
Chasing Teams Best Bets for the Weekend
Behind the league leaders, there is a four-point gap to second-placed Borussia Dortmund while RB Leipzig is a further point back in third. On Saturday, Dortmund has a tricky home test against Schalke 04 who is in the sixth spot and looking to hold on to a Europa League place. Dortmund is clear at the top of the moneyline market at odds of 1.56 with Bodog while the same sportsbook has a win for Schalke at 4.00.
It will be interesting to see how the break has affected the in-form teams and we think there may be some value in the draw. Spin Sports have a generous price of 4.20 on a share of the points for those that agree with our thoughts.
As for RB Leipzig, Saturday sees Julian Nagelsman’s team host Freiburg who currently sits in eighth. Once again, it’s a one-sided moneyline market with the home side quoted at 1.33 with Powerplay. The draw is available at 5.35 with 10Bet while a win for Freiburg can be claimed at 9.50 with 888Sport. With Freiburg having little to play for, there shouldn’t be a shock in this one so take those 1.33 odds for a modest return.
Other interesting bets to make
SC Paderborn 07 and Werder Bremen occupy the automatic relegation places with Fortuna Dusseldorf currently in the playoff slot. All three are losing ground on safety and it’s looking bleak ahead of the Bundesliga’s return.
Of the fixtures involving those sides, the one piece of hope may come on Saturday when Dusseldorf host Paderborn. Both teams are fighting for survival but with Paderborn facing a must-win game, their moneyline odds of 3.20 with PowerPlay could offer some value.
No sportsbook is looking beyond Bayern Munich to lift the title at the end of the season and bet365 are quoting 1.20 on a successful defence. The same bookmaker has Borussia Dortmund at 6.50 and Rb Leipzig at 10.00.
Similarly, relegation also looks clear cut with the two teams currently at the bottom – Paderborn and Bremen – set to go down. We are not expecting a shock in the futures betting but these three picks can provide a nice return as the Bundesliga comes back.
