Team Canada has captured the imagination of soccer fans across the country and around the world during their epic march towards their first World Cup berth since 1986. The Canadians have fueled their drive back into contention for a spot on the big stage by going undefeated so far in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. But despite emerging as the fastest rising nation on the FIFA rankings, where they currently sit at No.33, Canada has yet to gain traction on the World Cup championship odds. The Canadians continue to lag as a distant 170.00 bet at Bet99, well back of the current favourites Brazil, who lead the way at 7.00.

Is Canada for a Real?
After meekly bowing out of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, Canadaβs national soccer program found itself at a crossroads. The Canucks had not come close to qualifying for the World Cup in three decades, and found themselves incapable of keeping pace with powerhouse nations like the United States and Mexico.

All that has changed during the current World Cup qualifying cycle, with Canada perched atop the CONCACAF octagonal table with a sparkling 7-4-0 record after 11 matches, and needing just a single point over their final three matches to guarantee a berth at this yearβs World Cup in Qatar. However, qualifying will be the easy part for Canada, who have not claimed a major tournament victory since winning the Gold Cup in 2000, and failed to score a single goal in their lone World Cup appearance 36 years ago.

That said, sports bettors looking to get in on Canada in World Cup betting should like do so now. While the Canucks are not likely to threaten for a spot at the top of the World Cup odds board, they are likely to receive a boost at the sportsbooks from their current distant position once they do lock up a World Cup berth.
Usual Suspects Top the Odds
There are no surprises at the top of the 2022 World Cup odds, where Brazil currently leads the way as 7.00 chalk, closely followed by defending champions France at 7.40. The Brazilians have plenty of work to do to overcome some recent disappointments on the international stage. The Seleção have failed to advance past the quart-finals in three of their past four World Cup appearances, and were forced to settle for a fourth-place finish when they hosted the tournament in 2014.

Things have not gone much better for Brazil in other major tournaments. Brazil have won the Copa America just once in five appearances despite serving as hosts in the past two editions of the tournament, and with the current core of the squad starting to show its age, the clock is ticking. The good news for Brazil is their recent performance in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, where they lead the way with a 12-3-0 win-draw-record while averaging well over two goals per game.

As for France, they face the daunting challenge of becoming the first nation to successfully defend a World Cup title since Brazil won back-to-back in 1958 and 1962. Les Bleus have already qualified for a chance to repeat in Qatar, but must avoid the type of letdown they experienced following their two previous trips to the World Cup final, which they followed up with early group stage exits. Indeed, the French are also coming off a disappointing performance in the 2020 Euro, where they posted just one win before bowing out in the Round of 16.

Of course, hope springs eternal for England, who closely trail the favourites as an 8.00 bet at 10Bet to claim their first World Cup title since 1966. The Three Crowns are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, and were a dominant force in World Cup qualifying, outgunning opponents by a massive 39-3 margin while going undefeated in 10 matches. Now playing with well earned confidence after not allowing more than a single goal in 31 overall matches since October 2019, the time has come to take England seriously as a World Cup threat.
