The latest edition of the Ultimate Fighting Championship offers an interesting card from a betting perspective but there is a clear highlight. The night is being billed as Jones vs Reyes in many places as two of the best MMA exponents battle it out in their light heavyweight title matchup.

On the undercard, the women’s flyweight title bout between current champion Valentina Shevchenko and the challenger Katlyn Chookagian should give us more options as we look to complete a winning parlay.

It all goes off on Saturday, February 8th at the Toyota Center in Houston so let’s now see what the sportsbooks are saying.

Headline Act

Reigning UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones puts his title on the line and the challenge of Dominick Reyes makes for a worthy headliner. The sportsbooks aren’t, however, expecting a close encounter with Jones starting as clear favourite at 1.20 with PowerPlay.

Reyes has a perfect, 12 for 12 record in MMA but despite that, the 30-year-old is very much the outside bet at 4.50 with Bet365. If you’re backing the titleholder, you’ll, therefore, need to look for the prop bets if you want any value from this bout.

Spin Sports could be the place to go here with odds of 1.60 on the fight to finish inside the distance. Again, that isn’t an exciting number but it’s an improvement on Jones’ moneyline price and it offers an option for Reyes to win early too.

What we’re really looking for is a Method of Victory option and our recommendation comes from 888Sport. Here, the operator is quoting odds of 21/20 on Jon Jones to win By a Finish. That covers victory by KO, TKO, DQ or Submission and we suspect it’s the best value option for this fight.

Highlights from the Undercard

The women’s flyweight title bout is the obvious place to start but the straight moneyline result market is even clearer. Defending Champion Valentina Shevchenko is listed at odds of just 1.06 with PowerPlay while Katlyn Chookagian is way out at 8.00 with Bet365.

This is another instance where the outsider has the marginally better record in MMA but the comparative strengths in each corner suggest those odds are correct. 888Sport has odds of 7/5 on the fight to finish inside the distance but once again, the best option could be to take Shevchenko to win By a Finish. 888Sport is the place to be with a figure of 17/10.

The remaining fights at UFC 247 also show a clear favourite so the moneyline options may not hold too much interest. If you are looking for an outsider, Mario Bautista to beat Miles Johns at 2.10 with Sports Interaction is worth a look.

It’s tough to find any justification for backing an upset in the Jones vs Reyes bout. The defending champion has far more experience in the UFC and in MMA as a whole. He’s fought better opponents and, while the challenger has that 100% win record, it’s too soon to expect any shocks.

We’re concentrating on the two main fights here and we have a similar situation in the women’s flyweight title bout. It’s, therefore, a question of whether you want a safer moneyline parlay by backing the favourites or a more interesting option from the prop bets.

We suspect that neither fight will go the distance and on that basis, the By a Finish bets from 888Sport could offer the most profitable way in which to enjoy UFC 247.
