The 253rd edition of the Ultimate Fighting Championship is on its way with the action set to go off on September 26. While the exact venue has yet to be determined, we do have a developing card lined up with some top-class action scheduled for the octagon. Check out our UFC 253 Odds and Betting Preview.
The headline bout of the night sees a middleweight championship clash between the champion Israel Adesanya and the challenger Paulo Costa. UFC 253 Odds have been coming in from around the sportsbooks so let’s see if we can pick out some early value.
The UFC 253 Main Event
Adesanya vs Costa will bring the curtain down on another thrilling night of MMA and it looks to be the perfect battle. The champion, Israel Adesanya, crossed into Mixed Martial Arts after a long and successful career in kickboxing and he’s started with a perfect record of 19 wins from 19.
Challenger Paulo Costa also comes in with a 100% success rate at this stage of his UFC career. With 13 wins from 13, the Brazilian has marginally less experience but those records suggest that this should be a tight battle. The sportsbooks aren’t necessarily in agreement with prices for the favourite Adesanya slipping below the 2.00 line. You can back the Nigerian at odds of 1.67 with Sports Interaction while a win for Costa is available at 2.40 with Bet365.
With two perfect records on the line, something has to give and it’s a tempter to get behind the outsider here. He’s the younger man and, while that lack of experience could be an issue, it’s only marginal and there is a case for making Costa our first confirmed tip of the night.
The UFC 253 Confirmed Card
Only four fights had been confirmed for the main card at the time of writing but there’s always the possibility of claiming some better value this far in advance. Just behind the Adesanya vs Costa match up, we have an important women’s strawweight battle between Claudia Gadelha and Yan Xiaonan.
The sportsbooks have yet to get fully behind this bout but there are some early prices from a limited selection of outlets. Early indications show that Yan will be a clear favourite and Spin Sports are currently quoting 1.66 for the Chinese fighter. The same bookmaker has Gadelha out to 2.05 but, once again, there could be some potential for an upset. Yan has 11 wins from 13 in her MMA career to date while Gadelha has 18 from 22. We mentioned the value of experience in the previous fight and Gadelha’s longer career in the ring may help to upset the odds.
The only other fight that has odds available so far is the battle between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz. While this fight is tussling with Adesanya vs Costa in the right to claim top billing, it’s a light heavyweight championship fight that is bound to attract a ton of interest.
Early odds show, however, that this should be very one-sided. Reyes is the hot favourite at 1.60 with 888Sport while Blachowicz is out at 2.60 with 10Bet. We suspect that the sportsbooks have got that one right but, you can always add Reyes to your slip if you are compiling a parlay.
The verdict of the UFC 253 Bets
We’ve just the one upset on the cards: Paulo Costa may well be shorter in price when UFC draws closer so we would suggest taking that 2.40 soon.
Otherwise, all confirmed fights to date should go with the favourites.
- Paulo Costa to beat Israel Adesanya at 2.40 with Bet365
- Yan Xionan to beat Claudia Gadelha at 1.66 with Spin Sports
- Dominick Reyes to beat Jan Blachowicz at 1.60 with 888Sport
